Case Studies - Outstanding Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)

We think some of our most convincing evidence are voices recorded by our audio equipment. Sometimes the voices are very clear, and sometimes they are difficult to decipher. All the recordings here are judged to be authentic paranormal phenomena, since the source of the voice has been ruled out as being made by anyone present at the time of the recording. Most of our investigation pages list the EVP we obtained during that particular investigation. On this page we have listed some of the best EVP we have obtained thus far in our research.

©Horn Blaring...halt company! (recorded by Ronnie Nixon) Turn down the volume on your computer!  This EVP begins with a loud bugle blaring!  This outstanding capture was recorded by Ronny Nixon of Huntsville, Alabama at a Gettysburg, PA battlefield late at night after Susan Bove' of SJPR lectured there at the International Ghost Hunters Society annual seminar in 2003.  It is gratefully presented here with Ronny's permission.

Listening to this EVP is like stepping back in time!  For a little background:  Before the days of radio transmission, each "company" of soldiers was assigned a unique horn.  When information needed to be communicated to the troops, a horn would sound and then the command would be shouted back through the troops so that everyone knew what they were supposed to do.  When a soldier heard his company's horn, he had better listen up!

With that said, it was peaceful and quiet around 10 PM when this EVP was recorded on a Gettysburg battlefield.  It will send chills up your spine!

© It's me making all that noise. (recorded by George Rogozin)  While investigating on the landing of the second floor of a lavish home in Langhorne Manor Borough, PA, George Rogozin and his fellow investigators kept hearing noises emanating from one of the bedrooms.  They attempted to find the source of the noise, but were unsuccessful - at least for the moment.  Upon reviewing his audio, George discovered this voice of the woman who took responsibility, confessing, "It's me making all that noise."  To see and hear what other evidence we gathered from this investigation, click here.

© That lady over there is talking too much. (recorded by Jim Tornatore)  During a preliminary visit of a home in Langhorne, PA, Susan Bove' was talking with the clients, explaining what they can expect when SJPR came back to conduct a formal investigation.  It was at this time that Jim captured this woman interjecting her own thoughts!  Well, we've been telling Susan for years that she talks too much, but now the spirits are chiming in too!  This investigation has not even been conducted yet!  To explore our other evidence from this investigation, click here.

© Roll Call! (recorded by Sherri Halpin)  This clip is very cool!  Recorded in the basement of the Burlington County Prison is what sounds like various voices calling off their names!  "Waters, Mulford, Rutmeuler, Edgars..."  A woman then loudly proclaims, "I shoulda washed plates."  The prison cafeteria is in the basement, so this EVP is quite appropriate for the venue!  To see and hear what other evidence we gathered during this investigation, click here.

© Yuck!  Oh, Man!  Phew! (recorded by Kelly Groff)  During our road trip to Columbia, NJ, to investigate the Hainesburg Mansion, Kelly Groff caught an astonishing EVP!  The team was investigating in a large turret and concentrating on imagery.  The quiet was interrupted when one of the investigators (who shall remain nameless), "broke wind."  We all had a good laugh, because after all, flatulence IS funny!  It was during this break in the investigation when Kelly recorded this male voice saying who seems to be reacting to the situation at hand (or nose)!  To experience more of the evidence we captured during our trip, you can click on the respective links for our first trip and second trip.

© We could show you. (recorded by Kelly Groff)  While still sitting in a large turret in the Hainesburg Mansion, Kelly asked aloud, "Who's here with us?"  She received a reply from a female spirit saying, "We could show you."  Um...just how many of you are there?

© Singing (recorded by Susan Bove') This EVP is clear and astonishing!  While alone in the master bedroom of a home in Langhorne Manor Boro, PA, Investigator Bove' recorded a man singing in a sultry tone and a woman who seemed to be "advertising" his show!  Listen as the man sings, you'll hear a woman chime in with, "Come and sing with Mindle."  The original recording is offered here, along with the man singing and the woman clipped separately to be heard more clearly (below).  If anyone recognizes this song or the singer, please contact us!  To see and hear all of the evidence posted from this investigation, click here.   Man   Woman

© Yeah, get outta here - get goin' (recorded by Sherri Halpin) This is a truly amazing clip recorded by Investigator Halpin during an investigation of a home in Deptford, NJ!  As Investigator C. Groff states aloud that the spirits don’t like someone in the house right now (one of the SJPR members), a female voice chimes in, “Yeah, get outta here – get goin’.”  She is chuckling as she says this, so we believe it was said “tongue in cheek.”  Click here to see what other amazing evidence was captured during this investigation.

© I can't do that (recorded by Susan Bove') There is a hallway in the basement of the Burlington County Prison that always feels creepy.  It is the site where a guard and trustee were killed during the early 1920s.  In this clip, you will hear Investigator Jim Tornatore ask aloud, "Can you communicate with us?"  A male spirit responds with a British or Scottish accent, "I can't do that."  This EVP is recently captured.  To see what other evidence we gathered during this trip, click here

© Mary Carly Defling (recorded by Sherri Halpin) While investigating in the basement of the historical Ireland-Hofer House in Williamstown, NJ, Investigator Halpin and her team were practicing imagery and sensed a female spirit nearby.  In this clip, you will hear Investigator Halpin ask, "If you're here, can you tell me your name?"  In response, a female spirit answers, "Mary Carly Defling."  The voice is amazingly loud and clear!  To experience more of the evidence we collected during this investigation, click here.

© Mom....Not now! (recorded by Sherri Halpin) During our second investigation of a home in Hammonton, NJ, we obtained several EVP containing the voices of young children and a cooing baby.  In this particular clip, you will hear what sounds like a young child say, "Mom?"  After a moment, you will hear a female harshly respond, "Not now!"  The child's voice is astonishingly loud and clear!  You can check out the other compelling evidence we collected from this home by clicking here.

© Walter (recorded by Mike Hrycyk) While Mike and Susan Bove' were sitting in the computer room of a home in Galloway Twp., you will hear Susan ask aloud, "Can you say hi?  Tell us who you are?"  You will then hear the faint whisper of a woman saying what sounds like, "Maybe."  At the end of the clip, a deep-voiced male answers, "Walter."  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Mike Elliot (recorded by Sherri Halpin) This is an astonishing EVP that was recorded in a home in Glendora, NJ.  Although recorded by Sherri, you will hear Deb Thornton talking in this clip, asking the spirits aloud, "Can anyone here think they can record your voice?  Can you tell us your name?"  In response, a male spirit says (almost yells), "Mike Elliot."  Ironically, the spirit's voice is louder than the investigator!  And interestingly enough, there were other recording devices running during this time that did NOT pick up the spirit's voice!  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Disagreement (recorded by Michael Hrycyk) This is a great capture!  It is an apparent disagreement between two unseen men!  The first voice is loud and clear, saying, "We should all share a little."  The second male replies in a nasty tone, "Try and take it."  Let's all take a lesson from the first spirit and try to share a little :o)  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Nina... (recorded by Lois Weber) In this amazing clip you will hear a woman in the beginning saying, "Nina..."  You will then hear another woman scold her saying, "Stop or they'll hear us."  You will then hear the first woman laughing rather uncontrollably and loudly!  There are other spirit voices in this clip, but concentrate on the first two voices and the laughing.  None of the voices heard in this clip belong to anyone living!  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Sorry (recorded by Susan Bove') This was recorded during our first trip to what is probably the most active location that SJPR has ever investigated!  One of our teams found there was a very strong presence in the bedroom of the residents' daughter.  While the team was sitting on the floor, Investigator Jim "Bait" Rowand announced that someone had just stepped on his leg!  In this clip, you will hear him saying that he had never had anything like this happen to him before (being stepped on), and the rest of us chuckle at this. Listen for the apologetic male spirit say, "Sorry!"  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© La-La (recorded by Lori Zarycki) On the second floor of the Masonic Lodge in Gloucester County, NJ, a woman could be audibly heard singing, 'La-la'!  She was literally heard singing this four times and our teams captured her voice on both a digital recorder and on the audio of a video camera!  In this clip, most of our radio transmission has been edited out to concentrate more on the woman's voice.  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Singing (recorded by Lois Weber) After hearing a woman singing in the Masonic Lodge, Investigator Lois Weber decided to question the spirit we had heard. You will hear a woman singing, "I hear you... are you here?" You will then hear Lois Weber ask the spirit, if she is female, what is she doing there (because the membership of the club is predominantly male). After a few seconds, you will hear the spirit answer her saying, "Singing."  You will then hear a second female spirit say, "We like to sing."  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here

© That's sick (recorded by Lois Weber)  During our preliminary visit to a home in Woodbury, NJ, the residents were joking about the name of their cat, Mr. Lover, saying how great he was because he "didn't require batteries."  In this clip you will hear us laughing about this, followed by a prudish man saying, "That's sick."  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here

© Right, Mr. Lover (recorded by Susan Bove') In this clip, Susan was alone in the dining room of a home in Woodbury, NJ when the residents' cat, Mr. Lover, immediately ran over to her to be petted.  You will hear Susan jokingly tell Mr. Lover that it was not an invitation for him to come over for a pet (just because she had sat down on the floor).  You then hear a female voice giggle and say, "Right, Mr. Lover."  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here

© Drive on (recorded by Linda England) This was recorded in a home in Westmont, NJ. During our investigation of this home, Linda was very uncomfortable most of the time. She recorded a few not-so-friendly recordings, such as this one, and we felt that the spirit in this house, for some reason, just didn¹t like her and that¹s probably the reason she was not comfortable there. Other investigators obtained recordings as well, but none were unfriendly. You will hear a male voice simply saying "Drive on," as though it was a strong suggestion for Linda.  To see what other evidence we collected at this location, you can click here.

© Do we talk back (recorded by Susan Bove') This was obtained in a home in Roxboro, PA. Susan was speaking with the residents about EVP recordings. They wanted to pose some of their own questions to the spirits. During their questioning, Susan recorded this female voice saying, "Do we talk back?"  The recording is considered "interactive," as it sounds as though this female spirit was asking someone if she should talk back to us.

© How'd that feel (recorded by Susan Bove') Many electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) recordings we obtain actually interact with what is going on or being said at the time.  This was recorded in a home in Runnemede, NJ by Susan.  You will hear an investigator named Deb hit her leg and say "Ow." You will then hear Susan sarcastically ask her, "So how'd that feel?"  The voice of a mocking male spirit then asks, "How'd that feel, Deb?"
