| Case Studies - Salem Witch House
Members of SJPR took some time after the conference to do some 'investigating' around the town of Salem. One of the first places they visited was the famous Witch House. The Witch House was the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin. Judge Corwin presided over many of the pretrial hearings of accused witches and was a member of the court that condemned twenty innocent people to death. The house is said to be the only structure still standing in Salem that claims direct ties to the Witch Trials of 1692. Judge Corwin, who is buried in the nearby Broad Street Cemetery, purchased the structure in 1675 when he was 24 years old. He lived there for more than forty years. The house remained in the Corwin family until the mid-1800's. Although no flash photography is allowed in the museum, the members of SJPR were granted permission from our new friend, Nick, who allowed us to remain in the house to conduct an investigation, free from the disturbance of other visitors. We thank you, Nick, for allowing us the time we needed to conduct our investigation of this great house. We would not have been able to gain unprecedented access otherwise. Below are some of our findings from the Witch House in Salem, Massachusetts. -Click on a photo for a larger image- |

We recorded the voice of a child in the Witch House, but because he was difficult to hear, he was cut from this clip. This is the voice of a woman saying, 'I said no', perhaps in response to the child. Listen |
